Pundit view: Exit-bound Rangers ‘Predator’ now on his last chance at Ibrox

Barry Ferguson believes that Kemar Roofe has a chance to make a significant impact for the Rangers before the season ends, which is probably his “last go” at rescuing his Ibrox career.

The frequently injured forward is a “predator” inside the penalty box, according to the former Light Blues captain, who stated as much on Go Radio’s Football Show on February 16. However, due to his health problems, he may be seeing his last chance to make an impression for the team.

With the Jamaican international often out and other strikers Danilo and Abdallah Sima suffering long-term injuries, Ferguson is happy with Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers’ performances thus far, but he still thinks Roofe is the best option to score when healthy.

According to the Daily Record, Ferguson stated: “Listen, injuries has plagued his Rangers career. I’ve told you what I think of Kemar Roofe. He is an excellent center-forward, in my opinion. Without a doubt, but it’s merely to keep him in shape.

“It’s likely his final attempt to save his Rangers career for the future. He might be a major contributor if you can get him back into shape. Considering how well Dessers is doing, I am not saying to start. His performance has improved. These days, Fabio Silva is scoring a couple goals.

But Kemar Roofe is the best person to turn to when you need a goal. Inside the box, he is a predator.”

In recent years, the Gers have lacked a better finisher than Roofe, but nobody can score when they aren’t on the pitch, which has frequently been the case.

As his contract expires in the summer, barring an incredible comeback in his health, he will probably be leaving the team because it appears improbable that the team would agree to a new agreement given his lack of availability in the previous two seasons.

However, if he can play a few games before then, he is always a strong bet to score a crucial goal. It would also be a very well-liked manner for the 31-year-old to end his career if he could help the team win another championship.

38 goals in 93 Rangers games is a solid number in and of itself, especially considering 14 of those goals were scored in the SPFL during the team’s championship-winning campaign.

However, it appears more likely that he will not play much longer in the season—just 21 appearances across all competitions over the last two campaigns combined—so any games he does manage to play will have to be considered a bonus.
