Charlie Mulgrew Questions Whether Rodgers Can Turn Abada’s Celtic Struggles Around

Celtic winger Liel Abada faces a crucial juncture in his career as he grapples with challenges both on and off the field.

Amid the backdrop of the Israel-Palestine conflict, Abada’s form has dipped, prompting discussions about his future at the club.

Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s manager, recently highlighted Abada’s mental state by explaining his absence from the squad for the Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren, noting that the player was “not in the right frame of mind” to participate.

Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew weighed in on the situation, asserting that Rodgers must either find a way to rejuvenate Abada’s performance or consider allowing him to leave for the benefit of both the player and the club.

Mulgrew said on Tuesday night’s Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard, “I think if he’s not in the right frame of mind then he needs to weigh that up. Can Brendan Rodgers get the best out of him? Can he bring it back and get the best out of himself? Can he have that connection with the fans and get them onside with him and him playing his best football?”

The former Hoops star underscored the importance of Abada being at the top of his game and enjoying his football, suggesting a timeframe of a few weeks to a couple of months to make a determination about his future at Celtic. “He needs to decide whether he can do that. And that probably takes a couple of months, a couple of weeks and decide that before the summer. If he can’t then he probably needs to go. Because the most important thing is that he’s on top of his game for Celtic and enjoying his football. And if that’s not the case then for all parties it’s best that he moves on.”
