“He’s a different proposition” – Gers winger move backed, they have first refusal in the summer

In January, Rangers changed their approach to hiring, focusing on younger, more athletic players. The team signed exciting new players like Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande.

The players Philippe Clement has brought in all suit the profile he needs to bring attractive football to Ibrox, and he wants his team to be able to play at a high intensity consistently.

Oscar Cortes appears to be a wise addition for Rangers, who needed depth on the wings. Kenny Miller even likened him to a certain £6 million international on Clyde Superscoreboard.

Even though it was just against lower league opponents, Cortes has already demonstrated the motivation and optimism Rangers require from its wide players.

Wingers sometimes have a tough time handling two defenders while playing against low blocks, but the Colombian international has demonstrated a level of adaptability that none of the other players on our team have.

If Ross McCausland is all about control, Rabbi Matondo is all about mayhem, and £6 million Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima is all about goals, then having someone who can do all three things would definitely help our front three perform better.

Miller has brought up this topic while discussing Oscar Cortes’ outstanding debut with the Rangers:

“You saw that when he came on against Aberdeen, so I think he has that one-on-one ability.”

“Compared to players like Matondo and Sima, he is a different prospect; in my opinion, he combines several of these traits into a single player.

Sima may not be a great dribbler or ball carrier, but he has an eye for goal, and Matondo moves quickly.

“It’s early, but I think Cortes could be.”

And to question, “The best of both worlds?” host Gordon Duncan.

Miller responded, “Yeah.”

Cortes’ decision-making for a 20-year-old has been impressive.

When he had a gap to attack against Ayr United, he would lead the defender in one direction before taking a different one.

He knew when to drive with an urgent goal and when to slow down to play, and more often than not, he made the right decision.

Between cutting inside to his right to shoot and driving to the by-line on his left to cut the ball back or cross, there didn’t appear to be any weakness.

Every time he went for the latter, he left the keeper with a task.

Miller is correct in saying that the Rangers have acquired a productive and well-balanced winger in Oscar Cortes, and if we activate the loan-to-buy clause this summer, we will be able to keep him permanently.
