‘It’s clear already’: Philippe Clement comments on Oscar Cortes’ displays in Rangers training

Oscar Cortes, a winger for Rangers, received plaudits from manager Philippe Clement following a strong showing against Ayr United on Saturday night.

After defeating Scott Brown’s Ayr United team at Ibrox, Rangers has advanced in the Scottish Cup.
With goals from Borna Barisic and Fabio Silva, the Gers completed the task and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Although he won’t be getting too ahead of himself, Philippe Clement will undoubtedly be hoping to win another trophy following his victory in the Scottish League Cup earlier in the campaign.

On the scoreboard, this could have been a lot more decisive victory, but Oscar Cortes, the new boy, gave a great performance.

The Colombian winger Cortes is hoping to get back on track at Ibrox after joining Rangers on loan from Lens prior to the transfer deadline.

Cortes was not really given much of an opportunity in France, and he only joined Lens over the summer after making an impression in Colombia.

Cortes showed great promise on Saturday and is now hoping to secure a permanent relocation to Glasgow.
With just over a minute remaining, Cortes struck the post, and five minutes later, his crisp strike was saved.

Before halftime, the 20-year-old terrorized the Ayr defense by setting up Barisic for the game’s first goal. He then curled a left-footed shot just wide of the post.

After making two substitute appearances, Cortes had a great first start, and Rangers manager Clement appears pleased with what he has seen.
After the victory on Saturday, Clement gave an interview to BBC Sport in which he complimented Cortes for his efforts in both practice and on the field.

Clement also reports that the Rangers recruitment staff have had Cortes on their radar for a some now, feeling that he would fit in well at Ibrox.

Clement remarked, “We see why we bring him.” “He is a capable player who enjoys playing football and who can benefit the team.” Although he didn’t play many minutes—nearly none—during his six months in Lens, where they had a different coaching philosophy, it’s fortunate that our recruitment team had a long-standing relationship with him and that they could attest to his suitability for the squad and the team, as well as his ability to provide what we need going forward. “It’s evident from the initial training that he can assist us in accomplishing our objectives,” he continued.

Rangers supporters will be eager to see Cortes, who is still a raw talent, blossom against Scottish Premiership opposition—a significant step up from playing Ayr.

After such a terrible start to the season with Lens, we should expect some rustiness from Cortes, but there are encouraging signs.

We are just eager to see even more of Clement in a Rangers shirt because he has been amazed by Cortes in training and his effect against Ayr was evident to all.
