Rangers: BBC pundit thrilled for Sam Lammers after what’s happened since Ibrox exit

Despite Sam Lammers’ strong play for Utrecht, Rangers made the “right decision” to let him go during the January transfer window, according to Derek Ferguson.

After an awful spell at Ibrox, Lammers signed a £3.5 million agreement to join the Eredivisie club on loan until the end of the season, barely six months after leaving Atalanta (Rangers Review).

The Dutchman failed to prove he could handle the pressure cooker that comes with playing for such a prominent club, managing just two goals in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers.

He has, however, already recorded one more assist than he did in the league for the Rangers after recording two from his four Eredivisie games (sofascore).

Ferguson, however, is certain that allowing him to play abroad was the right decision, as he expressed to Ibrox News.

“I said it when Lammers was here, you could see he’s a visually appealing football player with technical skill,” the man remarked.

There isn’t as much demand on him at Utrecht as there is at Rangers, which makes playing there a different ballgame.

“I believe he might be able to unwind a little bit. Playing for the Rangers, Celtic, or living in this part of Glasgow doesn’t leave much time for relaxation.

“Players only begin to understand the distinct pressure they face when they move to this area, play for the Rangers, and live in the city. You’re under constant scrutiny, which creates a different sort of strain, and for whatever reason, Sam Lammers wasn’t able to handle it, and it showed on the field.

“You like to see players play well and get on, and that wasn’t quite happening at Rangers, so I’m happy he’s away playing well.”

“Letting him go, enjoy himself, and put less pressure on himself was the right decision, because that’s where you go to put on some good displays.”

Rangers had to let Sam Lammers go.
Now that Lammers has left for Utrecht, it is really nice to see him find some form. Long may it last, as it might result in either a respectable fee for Rangers or perhaps greater confidence when he returns.

However, at this point in time, it was really the only thing the Light Blues could do to allow him to go since things at Ibrox were becoming worse for him.

The Rangers
At the January transfer window, Sam Lammers left Rangers on loan.
Ferguson is correct when he says that too many supporters of Rangers or Celtic just aren’t able to bear the strain and scrutiny that comes with it.

Moving Lammers on was therefore the only course of action, and they took it since it was the best thing to do for everyone.
