Gustaf Lagerbielke’s ‘exorbitant’ Celtic wage revealed as Lecce let slip the numbers behind transfer collapse

Ever since moving to Glasgow’s east end last summer, the Swede has failed to leave his mark at Celtic Park.Gustaf LagerbielkePantaleo Corvino, the head of Lecce, has disclosed the “exorbitant” wage demands of Gustaf Lagerbielke, which caused his transfer to Serie A to fail.

The defender cost almost £3 million to go from Elfsborg to the Scottish Premiership, but he hasn’t been able to persuade Brendan Rodgers to give him a starting position; in fact, he hasn’t even made the bench multiple times this season. He was scheduled to go on loan from Parkhead to the Italian team, but Celtic called off the transfer as worries over Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury mounted.

In an attempt to force through the sale, Lagerbielke lash out in the Italian press. However, Corvino has disclosed the club was priced out of a trade anyhow, hinting that they were content with their defensive choices prior to the Swede’s pleadings. According to him, Lagerbielke has an annual contract worth €800,000, or roughly £685,000.

We are grateful that he wanted to visit Lecce, he stated. We expressed interest in him this summer, but we were unable to meet the outrageous demands; as a result, he signed a four-and-a-half million-euro contract with Celtic.

“Marin Pongracic and Federico Baschirotto were with us. He and his agency urged us to come to Lecce when he felt uneasy. It was his wish. But at the beginning of January, we had already determined that Pongracic, Baschirotto, (Ahmed) Touba, and (Sebastian) Esposito were qualified.”
