“I assumed that Celtic would put Matt O’Riley to the test. That took place. really put to the test. This, in my opinion, demonstrated the club’s remarkable resiliency. “And then Athletico Madrid entered the picture with the loan offer, obligated to purchase for about £20 million. Twice as much as Leeds United had been proposing during the summer. Celtic would be requesting a record fee, I’m informed, and they regard him far more than that. That means you’re talking about a starting point of roughly £25–30 million.

“They are quite firm in their insistence that he is not for sale in this window. It seems to me that he was content to remain. From what I understand, if the appropriate deal comes in, Celtic won’t prevent him from joining a top team. Simply put, they weren’t ready to sell during this window.”
