Ferguson shares ‘Disappointed’ Shankland admission in Rangers January transfer verdict

Barry Ferguson has urged Rangers supporters to believe in Philippe Clement’s judgement, acknowledging that he understands why they are “disappointed” that Lawrence Shankland wasn’t signed.Search in sidebar queryThe Hearts centre forward was frequently mentioned as a potential transfer target to Ibrox during the January transfer window. There were rumours that a deal could be reached provided the Light Blues met Tynecastle’s asking price.

Even while Ferguson fully trusts Clement’s final judgement, Shankland himself was rumoured to be keen on the transfer this month and Ferguson feels he would have been a perfect solution to Rangers’ striker dilemma.

In an interview with The Go Radio Football Show on February 2, 10:35, he stated: “In my opinion, he would have performed admirably at Rangers. It’s intriguing to learn that the two Celtics fans have the same opinion of him.

“For £3,000,000 at a resale value of 28.” I agree with the previous caller; I don’t really buy into it all. I can understand why Rangers fans are upset that they didn’t go for him because I believe he’s good enough right now to score goals for Rangers or Celtic.

“But you have to trust the manager with the work he’s done since he walked through the door because he made the decision.”

Rangers have good reason to be dissatisfied.

RangersAlthough Clement’s judgement must be trusted, as Ferguson stated, Rangers supporters fear that the Belgian may have limited his choices for scoring goals for the rest of the season.

Shankland would have been a reliable goal source at Ibrox and an additional option to strengthen a front line that is currently dependent on Cyriel Dessers’ form and fitness while everyone else is out.

Though his record in his brief career thus far won’t inspire too much confidence in the Gers, perhaps Fabio Silva can get off to a quick start and score the goals needed to lead the team to the Premiership title.

Whether Rangers are forced to regret their transfer decisions this month or not is another matter entirely, but right now the whole Ibrox fan base seems to be living in regret.
