Oscar Cortes to Rangers transfer done as Ibrox chiefs make bumper promise to incoming winger

The young Colombian has joined Philippe Clement’s squad at Ibrox, joining Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande.Rangers appoint James Taylor new finance chief as son of former SFA and ...Record Sport understands that Oscar Cortes has concluded his six-month loan to Rangers as a try-before-you-buy player.

Yesterday, the Lens attacker took a plane to Glasgow for his medical examination. After completing the necessary papers, Philippe Clement signed the 20-year-old, making him his third signing of the January transfer window after Mohamed Diomande and Fabio Silva. Cortes, a young Colombian, will sign a one-year loan with the Gers that will last until the end of the season.

However, Ibrox management have secured an option to make his deal permanent, so if he impresses between now and then, they’ll have a massive four-and-a-half year contract waiting for him in the summer. Cortes, who has only made four first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 squad this season, will need to have more of an impact than he has in France if he is to achieve that. Cortes is a regular for their Under-23 team but has only been capped once by his South American country.

But Rangers are sure he’ll be happier in Scotland and think they can help him find his form again. Prior to moving to Europe for £3.75 million in the summer of 2022, the youthful attacker scored seven goals in 29 games for his boyhood club, Millonarios.
