When Cammy Devlin, Liam Boyce and Peter Haring will return for Hearts after injections and setbacks

Three Hearts players who sustained injuries are rehabilitating in the hopes of contributing to the team’s success this season. Along with striker Liam Boyce, midfielders Cammy Devlin and Peter Haring have been injured for several weeks, and each of them has to have patience while they heal.

Right now, Devlin is the closest to making his first-team comeback. He missed Hearts’ 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock on December 2 due to an ankle injury, but he is already back and participating in some training sessions at Riccarton. But Boyce and Haring will be longer since they are tending to their knee and hamstring problems, respectively.

“Cammy is back doing part of training,” Hearts head coach Steven Naismith declared. “We are hopeful that by the end of this week, which is significant for him, he will be getting close to returning to full training. We’ll make a decision on his level of fitness and mental toughness to resume playing games next week.

Boycie is gradually coming to the conclusion that he doesn’t want to push it. It’s proper of him not to. As a player, I experienced it a few times myself. When you break down, you take a few steps behind. With that one, we simply need to exercise extreme caution and patience.”

Boyce hasn’t played since that Kilmarnock match either. The Northern Irishman’s problems are mostly a result of the anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of action for 11 months of the previous campaign. When he came back in August of last year, additional small injuries started to happen.

Boycie’s hamstrings and calves haven’t worked as hard as they have recently because of his extended absence from the game. That’s where he’s inevitably at. It basically comes down to strengthening and expanding that tolerance,” Naismith said.

After receiving a knee injection, Haring may be ready by the middle of February. “Peter hurt his knee against Livingston [on 2 January] and he’s had an injection in it, so he is just on his way back from that,” said Naismith. It sounds worse than it was—it was more of a usual issue. He needs to take it easy, but in a week or two, he should be back working out on the [training] field.”

Barrie McKay, a winger, is out longer due to injury. His knee has been in a brace for the past four weeks, and it seems like he could be able to get back to training in the second part of February.
