Rangers grant permission for £2m-rated player to enter talks with buying club

The Ecuadorian international has been given permission by the Gers to talk about a loan move to the Brazilian team, according to a report published on the Brazilian news outlet’s website on Wednesday, January 31.

It further stated that the 24-year-old midfield player appears likely to be departing Glasgow just six months after joining, thus the Light Blues are seeking to incorporate a £2 million option-to-buy clause in the agreement.

A summer signing by Michael Beale, Cifuentes hasn’t lived up to expectations, and it appears that he will be leaving the Rangers soon.

Just months before the midfielder’s contract with LAFC was about to end, the club reportedly paid £1.2 million to acquire his services because they were so anxious to sign him in the summer of last year.

However, the Ecuadorian’s time in Glasgow hasn’t quite gone as planned, as evidenced by his lackluster performance in his 20 games thus far this season—his last being against Dundee six weeks ago.

With the option-to-buy provision, it makes sense to remove him from the wage bill and possibly profit somewhat from him in the future, as Philippe Clement has made it obvious that he does not see himself in the team going forward.

After displaying glimpses of his potential, there might still be a respectable player there, but it now appears very doubtful that he will ever play at Ibrox again.
