Rangers finalize a deal to bring in a new player.

Oscar Cortes is travelling to Glasgow to complete a Rangers loan-to-buy move before the close of the transfer window, according to Julian Capera.

The Futbol Red journalist reported via Twitter on 28 January that the Colombian is on his way to Ibrox to formalise the move, after an agreement was reached with Lens.

The 20-year-old is set to join on loan for the rest of the season, with the Light Blues to have a permanent option in the deal.

The youngster only joined the French side from Millonarios in the summer but is now set to join Philippe Clement’s winter recruitment.

Fabio Silva has arrived on loan from Wolves and Mohamed Diomande has come in on a big-money loan-to-buy from FC Nordsjaelland so far.

Following up the report from Capera on Sunday evening The 4th Official added via Patreon that “as of right now” Cortes is en route to Rangers.

Active

Clement had revealed on 27 January that the plan was for the club to be active right up to the deadline [4 Lads Had A Dream] and with Cortes seemingly in line to join along with Fluminense full-back Jefte it looks like that is set to happen.

Abdallah Sima’s injury without a minute of action at the Africa Cup of Nations only increased the need to add attacking reinforcements at Ibrox this month.

Extensive injuries at striker have already left Rangers look up light up front, and the on-loan Brighton star’s goals from out wide will now also be missing.

Since Cortes only moved to Europe half a season ago he has multiple years left on his contract, so the chances are that the permanent option won’t be cheap.

John Bennett has come up with big money already to put towards the Diomande deal so it may be that a repeat performance is on the cards.

Should Jefte and Cortes both arrive it would mean two boxes ticked for the manager’s needs with the squad by young South American additions, and would seemingly leave an alternative number nine to back up Cyriel Dessers as the main target outstanding.
