Rangers fans strap themselves in as Philippe Clement issues Ibrox transfer warning

Rangers have already added Wolves forward Fabio Silva on loan for the rest of the season, a £35m player of whom big things are expected in the game. Add to that the signing of Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande on a £4.3m loan-to-buy, and suddenly the Ibrox ranks begin to bulk out with some exciting additions. With talk of Brazilian left-back Jefte and the striker void still very much yet to be filled, how the squad shapes up on February 1st is going to be very interesting.

Philippe Clement issues “busy” transfer update Philippe Clement was being asked about the club’s transfer plans in the aftermath of the 1-0 Scottish Premiership victory over St Mirren. With plenty of players also linked out of Ibrox – namely Ridvan Yilmaz and Jose Cifuentes – there could be quite some upheaval in what promises to be a chaotic few days ahead. In an update which has raised the hair on the necks of supporters, the Belgian manager confirmed that the club are expected to be busy right up until the final seconds this January. Rangers fans, what business do you want to see done? pic.twitter. “Yes (I expect to be busy),” said Clement. “Because that’s my job and it’s the job of every manager. “So we will be busy until the last second probably, like everybody.”

Asked about the role of Nils Koppen in securing any deals in and out of the club, Clement said: “It’s not only the two of us eh? It’s with a lot of people in the building. It’s not that the two of us make all the decisions. It’s together with Craeg (Robertson), with James (Bisgrove), with the Chairman, with the investors, with everybody. We make decisions together and we work together.

So that’s a good thing. It’s also one of the reasons for me to come to Rangers was that it’s really transparent, it’s really open, everybody is working hard. Everybody has an opinion and we say things between closed doors and we go out with one opinion at the end.” Rangers look set for a very tight end to the January window indeed as several players are earmarked for an exit and other roles in the squad look to be plugged.

The Rangers manager is always decidedly coy on any potential new arrivals or exits and nothing’s changed in that regard here. But one thing Clement has always been clear about is that the club will do business this January as Rangers look to mount a serious and credible title challenge. Out has gone Sam Lammers on loan but with serious injuries to Abdallah Sima, Danilo, and Kemar Roofe the club is undeniably short in the final third. With the rumours swirling overhead about Ridvan Yilmaz’s exit, we’re also expecting those links to Jefte to step up in the coming days.

Combine that with Clement claiming the window is set to go to wire, then we expect you’re going to be hooked to your phone screens until the 1st of February.
