Pundit thinks £3m Rangers target is ‘better striker than Cyriel Dessers’

Rangers have a legitimate opportunity to close this deal, and expert Michael Stewart believes it’s a wise decision.

Stewart said on Viaplay that Shakland is “certainly” a superior striker over Dessers, the current Rangers front man.

Stewart believes Shankland can step up because he has seen enough of Dessers to know that Rangers need another option in the closing third.

Stewart believes Shankland will “cost a fair bit of money,” however, which might make a January transaction a little more difficult.Celtic FC v Heart of Midlothian - Cinch Scottish Premiership
Stewart said, “I think what we’ve seen so far indicates that reinforcements are needed there.” “Clearly, there is a lot of conjecture about a certain number nine at Hearts. Lawrence Shankland is unquestionably a superior striker over Cyriel Dessers in my opinion.

Answering the question of whether Shankland could move up to the Rangers, Stewart said, “I think he could.” Hearts’ viewpoint is that they don’t want to lose him. He will come with a hefty price tag, but Rangers If they weren’t considering someone like Lawrence Shankland, I would be shocked.

Shankland has scored 37 goals in 58 appearances for Hearts, making him a proven goal scorer in the Scottish Premiership.

Since Rangers has sometimes been guilty of missing out on Scottish Premiership potential, it makes sense to consider Shankland rather than another import.

Our worry would be paying out another respectable seven-figure sum for a striker who is just 28 months older than Dessers was when he signed.

There would be long-term concerns about a deal for Shankland, and such signings often don’t provide much in terms of resale value.

Tynecastle and Ibrox have quite different expectations, but Shankland, who grew up a Rangers fan, would undoubtedly like the transfer.

Rangers may now choose to go for a proven Scottish Premiership striker, although there are currently few players who can equal Shankland, after spending a lot of money on attackers throughout the summer with little return.
