Shamrock Rovers confirm extension of Celtic striker’s loan deal

Since making the temporary transition, the Celtic attacker has made 37 appearances for the Dublin team, contributing four assists and six goals.Q: You must be thrilled to have Johnny back for another season after he shown his abilities well enough the previous season, scoring some outstanding and significant goals for us.

A: “Yes, it makes me happy. A lot of people seem to overlook that Johnny is still learning the game and has a lot of space for development and progress. He demonstrated this last season as a young player. He seems to be a good match for what we do. He’s a bright young man with a bright mentality, and we think he has all it takes to be a top-tier center forward. We are thus happy to have him back.

Q: As you said, it seems that many don’t realize Johnny is still a pretty young athlete. Was it tough for him at first to join a winning team that was aiming for a record-tying four championships in a row?

A: “People only see the player while they are on the field. It’s important to remember that he had a challenging 18 months before to joining us, and it takes time for a player to get used to a new environment. a new setting and new coworkers, therefore it’s a process that takes time to complete. The good news is that he has a fresh, sophisticated mentality. He wants to become better, therefore he works hard to get better. He seems like he has genuine talent, which Johnny can use here. Hopefully, we can assist him in using this talent.Shamrock Rovers, SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, The Showgrounds Rory Gaffney and Johnny Kenny celebrate a goal together. Q: At season’s end, you expressed your belief that Johnny would get more long-term benefits by playing with Rovers in a second season. Did Johnny need any convincing to see things your way?

A: “We spoke all the time. Since last summer, Johnny and I have had frequent conversations regarding my wanting to remain for an additional year. He approaches and perceives the game with maturity for someone so young. It’s excellent that he views this as his near future. We won the league last year, so he had a taste of what it might be like here—both as an individual and as a member of a team. He always seemed like he wanted to be a part of it, and based on all of Johnny’s statistics from the previous year, I believe he has a good chance of scoring a lot of goals here.

When it came to returning to Dublin, where he plans to further his growth, Kenny was just as excited.

“I’m happy to be back. We had a great year last year, and I was very motivated to return after we won the championship. With any luck, we can start well this year and advance across Europe and the Cup.

Q: With thirty league appearances, four in Europe, and five goals, you were chosen Rovers Young Player of the Year. You will be eager to advance in the next season.

A: “Unquestionably. Last season, I didn’t play to my best. This year, I want to go back to 100% fitness so I can really show my followers who I am.

Q: You said how significant it was to win a championship at the age of twenty. To what extent has Stephen Bradley aided your own playing development?

A: “It was great to win the league and it gave me an idea of what I wanted to accomplish and how many trophies I wanted to win.” Regarding how to become better both on and off the field and how to work as a team, Stephen has been outstanding.

Q: You rely on your uncle and father for guidance. Do they aid in overcoming obstacles?

A: “They support me in every situation, my family at home is there for me no matter what, and the Rovers coaching staff is always there for me when I need them.”

Kenny signed a five-year contract with Celtic in January 2022 after joining from Sligo Rovers. Kenny made two appearances before being loaned to Queen’s Park to continue his development and eventually make his way back to the League of Ireland. As young players want to push into the first team in the next seasons, Brendan Rodgers will be eager to expose them to first team football.

I wish Kenny success and hope he can help the South Dublin team achieve their goals for the next season.
