After suffering with a dislocated shoulder throughout 2023 and finding solace in the Glasgow Derby victory, Stephen Welsh is aiming to be injury-free in the future.Image for Celtic defender hopes that he has seen off his run of freak injuriesAn ankle ailment sidelined the defender for over four months after he signed a new deal in August, but he bounced back to assist Feyenoord clinch a much-needed Champions League victory on Matchday Six.

As the final whistle went in a 3-0 victory, Welsh came off the bench with the huge Derby countdown started after Cameron Carter-Vickers was injured during the team’s victory against Dundee on December 26.

After his elbow slammed the ground forcefully while sprinting into a challenge, the Academy graduate was once again in the thick of things with a dislocated shoulder thirty minutes into the Derby encounter, while seeming calm and at ease next to Liam Scales.

After making a simple adjustment, Welsh is aiming to avoid injuries for the next three weeks in order to contribute significantly to the pursuit of two trophies.

According to The Herald, the defender said:

In the Rangers game, I had a little fright, but it wasn’t as severe as we first believed.

Taking that week off after the St. Mirren game and the break were both very beneficial. I’m back in the training and open for adoption.

It has seemed like a series of events. I had to undergo a little procedure at the beginning of the season due to a serious injury.

It took me four or five months to recover from it, but up until that Rangers game, I was playing well and maintaining my fitness.

It wasn’t even muscular strains; rather, these were unexpected, strange ailments for which there is no recourse.

Naturally, things are difficult at the moment, and the trip back is terrible. However, you persevere, and maybe in the next months I can avoid injuries and have a run of games.

Having spent yesterday on media duties, it seems that Scales will start ahead of Maik Nawrocki for the second starting spot in the encounter between Welsh and Buckie Thistle.

If the injury jinx that dogged the season’s beginning is lifted, Brendan Rodgers should have four solid choices for the two spots in his starting lineup with Carter-Vickers anticipated to be back in the mix to play Ross County on Saturday.
