Big update on Matt O’Riley quitting Celtic to join giants this month

There is no possibility of Celtic star Matt O’Riley leaving the club in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

La Liga leaders Girona and Serie A giants Inter Milan are the latest sides to be strongly linked with a potential swoop for the 23-year-old in the media.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs are also monitoring O’Riley as they consider bringing him back to England.

Brendan Rodgers has been crystal clear on his intentions with the midfielder, insisting the Hoops have “no intention of selling” him.

The Northern Irishman also claimed the player is “really, really happy” at Parkhead and is a “brilliant professional”.

A well-placed source has confirmed to Football Insider that O’Riley is content with his role at Celtic and there is absolutely no possibility of him leaving the club this month.

He has managed 10 goals and 10 assists in 28 games across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

The one-cap Denmark international has recently made his 100th appearance for Celtic after leaving Fulham for the Scottish side in 2022.

O’Riley has a contract running until May 2027 after penning fresh terms in September 2023.

Rodgers’ side sit top of the Scottish Premiership by eight points but Rangers could cut that lead to just two if they win their two games in hand on Celtic.

The Hoops are next in action against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday (21 January).
