Rangers make enquiry to sign “special” attacking ace in January

According to a report from writer Dean Jones, Rangers has made inquiries on the loan signing of a “special” offensive player during the January transfer window.

If Philippe Clement wants to add players to help his team compete for the Scottish Premiership championship, he still has a few weeks to do some significant business in different parts of the field.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic’s Rangers careers, left-back seems to be the primary objective, although attackers appear to be the secondary aim as well.Rangers 1-3 Aberdeen LIVE as deafening boos ring around Ibrox as Michael Beale stares at sack - Football ScotlandHearts star Lawrence Shankland has also been linked to a transfer to Ibrox, while Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt is one player who has previously surfaced as a potential option for the Gers. The Englishman has struggled to get consistent minutes this season.

Another attacker tipped to go to Ibrox in the January transfer window is Emmanuel Dennis of Nottingham Forest. However, fans seem to be more in favor of acquiring Shankland instead, maybe because of his strong play this season and his leadership in the league’s scoring lists.

Rangers are contacting Joe Gelhardt
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said that while Celtic is also in the running to take Joe Gelhardt on loan, Rangers have made inquiries about doing so this month.

It would be a loan move, I suppose. Gelhardt is prepared to perform on the appropriate stage, making him a good profile player. Although he has amazing qualities, he may still require some improvement. The fact that Rangers and Celtic are now inquiring on two fronts is not surprising.

It must give a guy like Gelhardt more confidence to have such discussions going on around him at the moment. It’s different if they can materialize and become a transfer, but it doesn’t seem harmful to consider that scenario.”

Gelhardt seems like a promising player who might blossom at Rangers. He could thrive in a new environment and fit in with the Scottish game like a duck to water. The 21-year-old is very gifted, whether it’s dribbling past defenders or finishing elegantly. Jamie Carragher, a commentator for Sky Sports, previously praised the player after he scored a stunning goal for Leeds against Norwich City, saying:

“He has a really unique gift. He will be known for this significant accomplishment for now, but I promise that in a few years we will be talking a lot about this young man—he truly is.”

Although it seems that Celtic will be fierce opposition, a loan transfer to Rangers would make sense for all sides given Leeds don’t appear to view Gelhardt as a crucial starter in the Championship promotion drive this season.

The Germans are still looking for more attackers to join them.
This player has shown his ability by scoring 18 goals in only 27 Premier League 2 matches for the Whites’ junior side, for an overall total of 20 goals in 31 games for the Under-21 squad.
