Quest for silverware prompts Rangers to put star man out of reach from January suitors

The Rangers are eager to show their interest in Rabbi Matondo because they think their present team can support them in their pursuit of more hardware.Rangers manager Phillipe ClementRangers’ stint under new manager Philippe Clement has started off well, but despite whispers of incomings and offers for some of their key players, their January window has been quiet thus far.

Winger Matondo, who has reportedly been targeted by several Turkish teams, is one player who has drawn attention.

There is a chance that Super Lig parties will reach an agreement. TEAMtalk is aware that the Rangers intend to cling onto the winger, though.

Their roster, which is already struggling on several fronts, is already short on wide players, so losing the Welsh international would make matters worse.

Only three players—Scott Wright, Abdallah Sima, and Fabio Silva—are wingers by nature.

Silva joined Clement this month on loan from Wolves, and players aren’t allowed to depart until a ready-made replacement is in place to take their place right away.

Matondo arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2022 after signing a £3 million contract from Schalke. However, he has since struggled with injuries and conditioning.

Matondo is someone Clement is familiar with and intends to use this season.

He is certain to remain in Glasgow until the summer at the latest, despite his lack of playing time, unless Rangers receive a sizable offer that would enable them to acquire a comparable player in his stead.

The team has advanced to the Europa League knockout stages and won the Scottish League Cup since Clement’s appointment.

They might finish the season with an incredible harvest of trophies, and they are still in the running for the championship versus rivals Celtic.

The Belgian coach is eager to keep as many members of his team at the club as possible for this reason, among others.
