Fresh twist emerges in Rangers transfer chase for English forward – report

Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Rangers will not be taking forward Joe Gelhardt on loan from Leeds United this month.The news agency stated on January 19 on their website that the striker does not anticipate being permitted to leave Elland Road prior to the deadline of February 1.

Even if things were to change, Leeds would not be able to approve a loan move to Glasgow at this time since it would be considered an international loan and they do not have enough spaces available.

“A temporary stint with either Rangers or Celtic is impossible because it would count as an international loan and Leeds cannot sanction any more of those,” Gelhardt’s camp wrote. “They are under the impression that there is currently ‘no chance’ the forward moves out on loan during the January transfer window,” they wrote.
Not a problem

Though many Gers supporters are eager for new players to join the team at Ibrox in order to bolster the roster, nobody will be grieving over the decision not to sign Gelhardt.

The 21-year-old is far down the Championship team’s pecking order and has hardly played at Elland Road this season, so it would be shocking if he arrived to Ibrox and made an immediate impression as a starter.

It seems doubtful that we would be adding another forward in the same mould so soon given that Fabio Silva has already strengthened the striker position in the team and even he has struggled for playing time this season.
In the final two weeks of the transfer market, the club should focus on other areas of the squad, such as left-back and central midfield, which should be prioritised.

While regrettable, it’s not a major concern. Rangers supporters can finally, at least, put this myth to rest.
