Rangers chiefs must speed up as Fabrizio Romano shares £10m+ transfer update

Rangers chiefs will have to speed up in their bid to bring reinforcements to Ibrox in January after Fabrizio Romano reported that David Jurasek is set to join Hoffenheim on loan with a £10.2million option to buy. The Gers were linked with Jurasek multiple times in the past week, with the most promising from teamTALK [17 January] claiming Rangers had tabled a “good offer” for his services.

Fluid logo On 18 January, though, Romano shared via his X account that Hoffenheim have reached an agreement with Benfica for the deal, seeing Rangers miss out. A new left-back has become a priority at Ibrox this month with Ridvan Yilmaz widely expected to leave the club amid interest from Hellas Verona and Galatasaray, which would leave Borna Barisic as the only option in that position. Barisic is a cause for concern himself, though, with his contract set to expire in the summer and no movement on a new deal as things stand, with Leeds United keeping an eye on that particular situation at Ibrox. those developments have made the search for a new left-back a key part of their January transfer window plans, but after missing out on Jurasek, the transfer team will need to speed up their search with just under two weeks left of the window. There is no indication that the deal was definitely on the table for Rangers, but waiting around for another club to swoop in and get the deal done first is not a strategy that can continue in their search for winter reinforcements to their title challenge.
