Celtic and Rangers Premiership rivals hit with transfer blow as striker departs

As Motherwell battles to survive in the Scottish Premiership, one of their main talents will be absent for the second half of the year.

Motherwell, a Scottish Premiership team, suffered a severe setback in their attempt to avoid relegation this season when Mika Biereth, the team’s leading scorer, was called back from his loan by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

After overcoming a knee injury early in the season, the Denmark under-21 international had a successful first half of the season at Fir Park, netting 11 goals in 15 games.

The Sheffield Star is aware that the 20-year-old attacker, who is seen as a “direct number nine,” is a major target for English team Sheffield Wednesday. He is expected to be loaned out once more in January.Celtic vs Motherwell VAR watch as two penalties and possible red card pored over - Football ScotlandWith just 22 points from their first 27 games in the Championship, the South Yorkshire team is currently fighting for their lives. Earlier in the season, the Owls appeared to be dead and buried in the relegation battle, but since manager Danny Rohl took over, they have significantly improved their play. Rohl was one of the candidates for December’s Manager of the Month. Wednesday’s performance has improved, but they are still four points outside of safety, thus Biereth’s presence might significantly increase their chances of making the playoffs.

Stuart Ketwell, the manager of Motherwell, has acknowledged that the decision to recall Biereth caught him off guard because everyone had assumed he would play on for the rest of the season.

Ketwell responded to the news by saying, “It’s a major, major disappointment.” This came as a slight surprise. They think there’s a chance to move him to a different club where he can advance beyond where we are right now.”

In order to keep the team in the top division, Motherwell will be counting on another striker to step up in his place. Despite having played two more games than Ross County, the Steelmen are now only two points above the relegation spots.

This weekend, the North Lanarkshire club plays its Scottish Cup match against Alloa Athletic, followed by a crucial Premiership away game against another struggling team St Johnstone. For 39 years, Motherwell has been a constant in the top division, and they are want to stay in the Scottish Championship.
