Sunderland favourite could seal surprise reunion with Birmingham boss Tony Mowbray

While Tony Mowbray was on Wearside, he drastically changed the careers of several of Sunderland’s star players. In the Championship, players such as Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts appeared to be world-beaters, and his superb coaching helped players like Dan Neil, Dan Ballard, and Trai Hume.It didn’t take long for the former Sunderland manager, who joined Birmingham City earlier this month, to begin examining his old team in an effort to bolster the Blues’ roster.

The Telegraph claims that Birmingham City is one of three teams vying for Alex Pritchard.

The midfield player has not yet signed a new contract and is presently playing out the final six months of his current one at the Stadium of Light.

During his tenure at Sunderland, Pritchard has grown to be a fan favorite, but in the previous year or two, he had serious trouble getting consistent starts.
Following Sunderland’s promotion to the Championship, Pritchard appeared to struggle for minutes after the new year, having started 21 of the team’s first 22 games.

In the second half of the 2022–2023 season, the 30-year-old made just five starts. In the summer, he was strongly rumored to be leaving. Even though Pritchard stayed at Wearside, Mowbray only gave him four starts this season before firing the 60-year-old.

Now that he’s returned to the team, the midfielder has shown a lot of improvement, accumulating the most assists among the group (5).
Although Pritchard has been linked to a new contract, Birmingham City wants to sneak in and wrest him away from Sunderland this month.

Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer and Turkish team Sivasspor are reportedly joining the Blues in their chase. I find it absurd that Tony Mowbray is pursuing Alex Pritchard when it seems like he was indifferent to him throughout 2023.

Pritchard’s inclusion in the starting lineup was repeatedly demanded by Sunderland supporters, but the old manager didn’t appear to think highly of him.

It is quite perplexing that he is now looking to bring the veteran to St Andrews, particularly because Bradley Dack, Mowbray’s best friend, is also nearing the end of his contract.

However, we should be working on a new contract for Pritchard regardless of Mowbray’s desire, since he has easily been one of our greatest players since his return.
