Rangers told home-grown talent isn’t good enough amid contract stand-off

In a season with sixty games, there is really no reason to sign a player who can only play twenty.

Miller disagrees, saying that the Rangers have Connor Barron as the ideal like-for-like substitute and a player that they can count on to contribute:

“I like what I’ve seen of him, but to leave Aberdeen to join the Rangers when you can’t get a game… Is he going to make Rangers better right now? As one of Aberdeen’s star players, he has never been a fixture in the midfield.

“You have to be Aberdeen’s top player in order to get traded to Rangers. That is all. Furthermore, he isn’t Aberdeen’s finest player, let’s face it. The situation isn’t as cut and dry as Miller suggests.

Players who are “committed” are oftentimes better than those who are unwilling to sign new contracts. If you ask Aberdeen supporters who they would prefer to have in their midfield, regardless of talent, you can almost certainly bet that they will tell you that Barron should start.

Furthermore, a man-of-the-match performance in a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt indicates that he possesses more than enough talent to succeed at Ibrox. During Aberdeen’s Europa Conference League campaign, he started four games and only lost one.

In domestic competitions, he has only started seven games, but he has also only lost twice, helping the side to victories over Hibs and Hearts when he has solidified the midfield.

The Rangers have had a quiet transfer window, but even though Kenny Miller disagrees, there isn’t much doubt about the choice to be made about Connor Barron.
