Manager Rangers looked at before Clement has now been sacked following Euro exit

Speaking just days before Christmas, an expert on the Eredivisie insisted that, had he taken over at Ibrox, Pascal Jansen would have probably “failed,” pointing out AZ Alkmaar’s propensity to swing from fantastic to appalling. The 39-year-old was also accused of wasting “the best young talent in the whole Netherlands.” And some higher-ups at the AFAS Stadium appear to have shared the same frustrations Michael Bell expressed in an interview with the Football Oranje podcast.

AZ Alkmaar v SK Dnipro-1: Group F - UEFA Europa Conference League

Wednesday marked Jansen’s official dismissal from the position, some three months after he acknowledged that the rumors that connected him to the Rangers had “flattered” him.
I’ve been in the football industry long enough to know that this can play a role, Jansen says on the Arizona website. Naturally, it is regrettable and unfortunate.

“I am proud of my time at the club and the opportunity I have been given here, even in spite of this disappointment. Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my staff and players for their enjoyable and productive partnership. I’m hoping for the best for the group and its members going forward.

Jansen departs AZ in a solid fourth place, despite having lost three of his last five Eredivisie games. They did, however, exit the Europa Conference League during the group stage, which was a significant setback for a team that advanced to the competition’s semifinals in 2022–2023.
In the end, we have made the decision to call it quits, says Max Huiberts, the director of football at AZ. “We are appreciative of Pascal’s contributions to the club over the last five years, even in light of the challenging and abrupt decision. We hope that he has further success in his career.

In the meantime, despite losing the Old Firm derby 2-1 in December, Rangers is dominating under Clement, taking home a trophy, guaranteeing a position in the Europa League’s knockout rounds, and exerting pressure on Celtic in the domestic league.

Frank Lampard, another star that was expected to replace Beale come September, is still unemployed. In contrast, Nenad Bjelica’s Bundesliga debut at Union Berlin hasn’t gone well.
