Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Gears Up for Intense Competition at Coral Coast 7s

While anticipation for the McDonalds Coral Coast 7s grows, Ben Gollings, Head Coach of the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s, is expecting a tough three days of competition.

The team has gained momentum from the victory in Levuka over the weekend, and players have received adequate playing time.

Gollings emphasized the value of playing challenging opponents, saying that the team’s most recent match in Levuka was just the right kind of test.

“The participants got a chance to show off their abilities. The team’s dynamics were closely monitored by the coaching staff, who noted the team’s strong points and areas that may use some further improvement.

Gollings stated, “We don’t want the Coral Coast to just be a walkover, and the opposition, particularly the formidable Tabadamu side, is known for their tenacity on the field.” The Coral Coast 7s kick off on Thursday.

“The team is specifically looking for this kind of competition—a chance to be challenged in a high-pressure setting and pushed to their absolute limits.”

Prior to the Perth 7s the following week, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s squad uses the Coral Coast 7s as a testing ground for new player lineups.

According to Gollings, the goal is to build a durable and well-rounded team rather than just win games.

The Mens 7s team, together with Tabadamu, Saunaka, and SRS Tubarua Highlanders, will compete as the Fiji Babas in Pool D.

The Coral Coast 7s will take place at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka from January 18–20, 2024.
