Lawrence Shankland offered ‘lucrative’ contract as Rangers transfer twist emerges

Lawrence Shankland has been offered a “lucrative” new contract at Hearts amid interest from Rangers in signing the forward, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The newspaper reported on its website on Monday (15 January) that the deal would make the Scotland international the highest-paid player at Tynecastle in more than a decade.

It added that the Jambos are aware of interest from clubs in Scotland and England in signing the 28-year-old, but that they would have no interest in selling their captain unless they received a bid worth “several million pounds”.

Now or never

It feels like a now-or-never situation for Rangers if they want to land a deal to sign Shankland following the latest contract news coming out of Hearts.

The Edinburgh side have made their intentions clear to the forward and it’s now up to him whether or not he wants to commit his long-term future to the club.

But with his current deal expiring in 2025, now is the best time for the Gers to try and find a deal as his price will only go up if he signs a new contract and the Jambos would be under no pressure to sell.

It’s no secret that Philippe Clement wants to add to his forward options despite already bringing Fabio Silva to Ibrox on loan from Wolves this month.

But if he could sign someone like Shankland, who has scored 18 goals in 28 matches this season, then that would be a massive boost to the Light Blues’ chances of claiming more trophies during this campaign.
