Rangers could now be in pole position to sign Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt as Ibrox development emerges

The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (14 January) that West Brom are also interested in the 21-year-old.

Nixon added that it may be more convenient for the Whites to loan Gelhardt to a Scottish club, with Celtic also showing an interest.

Celtic battle West Brom to sign Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt

Rangers have, of course, only recently just snapped up one loan attacker in the form of Wolves striker Fabio Silva. But he could perhaps be joined by Gelhardt this month as manager Philippe Clement tries to improve his squad for what is certain to be a very tricky run-in.

The Gers not only need to catch fierce rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, but have it all to do in the Europa League and Scottish Cup.

Clement has already clinched silverware during his brief spell at Ibrox in the form of the League Cup, but the man in the dugout will be keen for more success this season.

And one way to achieve that will be by scoring goals, with Leeds youngster Gelhardt certainly capable of doing just that.

He hasn’t, however, been given much of a chance at Elland Road this season, with Daniel Farke handing the striker just over 300 minutes of action in all competitions.

Rangers could provide a suitable option for the out of favour forward, but the club would first need to offload one of their own.

The Scottish giants hardly have room for another attacker at this moment in time given the presence of the likes of Silva, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, Abdallah Sima and Kemar Roofe.
