Exciting talent arrives in the UK as Celtic make transfer breakthrough; fee, contract details

Celtic will put Nicolas Kuhn through a medical in London on Monday before confirming his signing early in the week, according to the latest Sunday reports.

It’s been known for a while that the Bhoys have been in negotiations with Rapid Vienna for his signature but a breakthrough has been made today and the player has travelled to go through the final stages of his transfer.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reports this afternoon that Kuhn has already arrived in London ahead of tests tomorrow, with a final agreement reached between Celtic and the Austrian club.

It’s said he will sign for an initial fee of €3.5m (£3m) with add-ons and agree a four-year contract until the summer of 2028.

It’s previously been reported by other outlets that Brendan Rodgers took an active role in the transfer and was a big reason why Kuhn has decided to sign for Celtic over clubs in Italy and Germany.

Nicolas Kuhn ready to compete for minutes at Celtic

Kuhn’s profile has been called into question by pundits such as Chris Sutton, but it seems clear to me that the winger arrives ready to compete for a slot in Rodgers’ team.

He’s a left-footed winger who enjoys cutting in from the right flank and is regarded as one of the most creative forces in Austria right now, looking at comparative FotMob data.

Certainly, he should be earning minutes ahead of current options such as James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Hyunjun Yang.

Rodgers now has a core group of wingers that also includes Daizen Maeda, Luis Palma and Liel Abada. That’s a solid quartet and will give the Bhoys significant firepower in the second half of the season, especially if everyone stays fit and healthy.

Kuhn has made 51 appearances in total for Rapid and has a strong football education behind him having spent time in youth teams at RB Leipzig, Ajax and Bayern Munich.

He could now make his debut as early as next weekend at home to Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup
