Rangers transfer news: £4.8m bid update emerges on Josh Doig

Rangers are expected to lose out to Marseille in the race to sign Hellas Verona left-back Josh Doig, according to the Scottish Daily Mail. The newspaper reported in its print edition (13 January, Page 98) that a development occurred on the night of 12 January with the French club closing in on the deal.

It’s understood that a bid close to 4.8million has been tabled and that should see the 21-year-old seal a move to the Velodrome. Rangers urgently need to find an alternative for Doig as the promising left-back appears set to join Marseille after a £4.8million bid from the French side was accepted by Verona.

The missed opportunity to sign him emphasises the need for the club to swiftly identify and secure an alternative left-back. Failing to secure an alternative quickly could leave the team without a crucial defensive asset, and with the 21-year-old no longer an option, Rangers must redirect their focus to alternative targets.
The dynamic nature of the transfer market requires Gers to be proactive in identifying suitable alternatives, considering factors such as playing style, defensive capabilities and adaptability to Philippe Clement’s system.

Moving swiftly will also ensure the new signing has ample time to integrate into the squad before crucial fixtures.

There are other left-backs out there who will be willing to move to Ibrox but something needs to be finalised before Ridvan Yilmaz is allowed to leave.
