Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Rangers player Ferguson believes it was a wise decision on Clement’s part to keep Rae active behind the scenes. “I love that he took his time with some of the staff as well,” he remarked, quoting “old Alex Rae, one of my buddies.” Alex is a terrific guy who is really knowledgeable about the game, so I was excited.

“He’s taken his time deciding whether to keep Alex on, so I’m happy for Alex because I think Clement has realized that it’s more important to consider a player’s character than their skill level or coaching background, and that’s what he’s done incredibly well.

“He works with players not only on the field; he also guides them in the proper direction as individuals, which is important in football.

“I just feel like he has something about him; there’s that likeability factor mixed with a steeliness that makes him seem a little bit outdated, but I just adore the way he kind of handles everything.”
