Celtic ‘on verge’ of securing first January signing as £2.8m transfer nears completion

After obtaining a work permit, the Rapid Vienna winger is reportedly “very close” to joining the Hoops.
Nicolas Kuhn is prepared to decline offers from clubs in Italy and Germany in favor of a move to Parkhead, meaning Celtic are getting close to making their first January transfer acquisition.

The adaptable German winger, who has under-20 international experience, is anticipated to complete his transfer next week. The Hoops and the Austrian team Rapid Vienna are almost certain to reach an agreement on a transfer fee of about £2.8 million.

Footage Scotland reports that Parkhead executives have ‘pushed hard’ to finalize the deal in the last few days, following the revelation that the Scottish champions had an early proposal rejected for Kuhn that fell just short of Rapid’s asking price.
In preparation for the Scottish Premiership title run-in, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is eager to bolster his wide areas of support. The 24-year-old has been under close observation this season, having netted three goals and provided seven assists in 22 games across all competitions.

Given that Vienna is now expected to lose Kuhn this month, it is thought that they have already begun their search for a replacement. Earlier this week, sporting director Markus Katzer acknowledged: “In general, I don’t want to comment on any rumors.” However, I can vouch for the fact that we do have firm offers for Nicolas Kuhn, albeit I won’t reveal which clubs are interested.

The former Bayern Munich and Ajax playmaker is believed to have left the Austrian Bundesliga team mostly because of the chance to work under Rodgers. He will NOT be engaged in Rapid’s warm weather training camp in Turkey next week as he prepares to iron out the finer details of the transfer this weekend. According to the Scottish Sun, Kuhn has obtained a work permit in order to perform in Scotland.
