Celtic told ‘no way’ Brendan Rodgers agreed to 23-year-old’s signing

Celtic’s centre-back department has taken twists not many would have predicted at the start of the season.

Who would have imagined that Liam Scales, who spent the previous season on loan at Aberdeen, would emerge as one of Celtic’s most vital players in the New Year and team up with Stephen Welsh to take on Rangers?

Although Cameron Carter-Vickers’ two different injuries have contributed to it, there are other factors at play as well, including the disappointment of summer additions like Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki.

As he told Clyde 1, Kenny Miller asserts that there is “no way” Brendan Rodgers could have signed the Sweden international for £3 million.

As you may remember, Gustaf Lagerbielke did start Celtic’s season-opening 1-0 victory at Ibrox, but he did not play much after appearing suspicious.

There are already rumors circulating that he might be heading for the exit in January, which begs the issue of who approved this agreement.

If it had been Brendan Rodgers, the Celtics manager would have undoubtedly given the 23-year-old more time to establish himself, but as Kenny Miller hinted to, that is obviously not the case.

Miller remarked, “I know there has been an injury to Nawrocki, but three center-backs have come in.”

However, none of the three center backs that were added over the summer were able to play well. Scales and Welsh were the two academy products you saw in an Old Firm match.

Lagerbielke from the Ibrox Old Firm match. He appeared quite shady to me. It didn’t inspire him. Scales, the man who resembled the steady chip, was his partner for the day.

Brendan Rodgers signed him, no way around. There is no way that the player, who Brendan Rodgers signed five months ago, is no longer good enough.

“You don’t write it off that quickly if you have signed him and you think he could be this player.”

Will Brendan Rodgers be backed?

The Northern Irishman has been expressing for some time now that Celtic needs quality players and that they are expecting that they would arrive.

Though it’s early, the January transfer market has so far been quite quiet from the perspective of incoming players.

Things might really get going when players start playing again, or as is usually the case in the final few days of the window.

There’s no need to play around if you’re going to bring a manager like Rodgers back to the team, especially after his initial run of success! Just support him appropriately, allow him bring in the players he wants, and let him get on with it!
