Star forward for Rangers FC is about to sign a contract with a Premier League team.

Wilson served as Rangers sporting director before deciding to leave Ibrox for the chief football officer job at Forest.

Wilson was soon followed by Craig Mulholland as Rangers saw the academy director leave the club and then join Forest too.

We could now see Forest raid Rangers again, this time for a young prospect Mulholland will know well…

The Daily Record (09/01, 10:34am) report that Nottingham Forest are now set to snap up Rangers youngster Jamie Newton.

It’s stated that Forest are ready to offer a two-year deal with Newton now seemingly on the verge of leaving Rangers.

Newton has come up in the Rangers ranks and will have been coached by Mulholland in the Gers youth setup.

Primarily a left back, Newton has featured in the Lowland League for Rangers but hasn’t made a first-team appearance.

The 18-year-old now seems ready to give up on his Rangers dream and complete a move to the City Ground instead.

Wilson and Mulholland will have played a key role in this move, seemingly believing that Newton has the potential to become a Premier League player.

This is the same move goalkeeper Nicky Hogarth made in 2021 as he quit Rangers for Forest, but never made a first-team appearance.

Now back in Scotland with Falkirk, Hogarth will have learned a lot from the experience and Newton will seemingly follow in his footsteps.

Whilst Newton won’t feel like a huge loss right now, Rangers do need to improve in terms of the pathway from youth setup to first team.

Ross McCausland is making an impact right now but Rangers need to see more talent emerging rather than leaving as teenagers.
