Billy Dodds: Cyriel Dessers is on ‘cliff edge’ at Rangers, ‘He’s got to do something’

Billy Dodds claims that after a difficult start to life at Ibrox this season, Cyriel Dessers is on the “cliff edge” at Rangers.

The analyst stated on Monday, January 8, at 17:02 on the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast that he believes the Nigerian international has “something there,” but that he is “taking an eternity over chances” due of his lack of confidence.

He added that the 29-year-old “got to do something” to change his situation, implying that he might not be able to take the strain of playing for a major team like the Gers.

He added that the 29-year-old “got to do something” to change his situation, implying that he might not be able to take the strain of playing for a major team like the Gers.

Dodds remarked, “I believe there’s something there.” He’s taking too long to make decisions, and as a striker, you don’t get that. However, confidence is key to it.

“Yeah, but he’s scored a few, so he should be kicking on now,” I believe some others stated. I’m not saying he won’t succeed at the Rangers; perhaps he just can’t manage the pressure of playing for such a large club, both psychologically and physically.

He simply has a “I can’t handle the crowd, I can’t handle being here, and I can’t handle the crowd giving me stick” expression right now. However, he needs to take action. He’s on the verge of something, but I wouldn’t write him off just yet.

One thing Dessers can’t really gripe about is that he hasn’t had many chances to show off this season as a member of the Rangers squad.

This is mostly due to the injuries sustained by Danilo and Kemar Roofe, two more forwards who will miss the next several months of the season.

The Nigerian has only managed nine goals in 30 games since joining the Gers, failing to score enough goals to silence his numerous detractors.

He will undoubtedly need to pick things up over the next few weeks, though, as the Light Blues will be without Abdallah Sima, who has joined the Senegal squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, and new signing Fabio Silva will be looking to make an impression after joining on loan from Wolves.

Dessers will instead be trying to score goals for Philippe Clement’s team to help them contend for additional titles this season, as he was not called up by Nigeria due to his efforts in this campaign.

A Sky Sports commentator has revealed who would be a “terrific” addition to the Rangers in other Rangers news.
