Chris Sutton flips Rangers blame game as Celtic hero tells them what’s REALLY astonishing after SFA blast

Chris Sutton has informed Rangers of what’s REALLY amazing following their SFA meltdown and believes they should assign blame to their own players rather than Willie Collum.

The Ibrox club released a statement hitting out at the SFA for delaying releasing the audio of the VAR process that led Collum to not award them a penalty for an Alistair Johnston handball in Saturday’s Old Firm defeat. Abdallah SIma was offside in the build up, although former Scottish ref Bobby Madden has since claimed that because the match wasn’t restarted with a free-kick for that offence, then it meant Collum had concluded that no penalty should have been awarded regardless.

Todd Cantwell isn't at Rangers apex yet but playmaker knows what position is primed to get him there - Daily Record

The governing body sent Sky Sports a still photo showing Sima’s offside, which they showed throughout the second half. Rangers are “astonished” that Collum seemingly would have decided that no penalty should have been given had Sima been onside, and they have “concerns over the motivation” for this.

But Sutton has slapped down the Govan gripes, pointing out that other clubs will be just as perplexed at a lack of spot kicks conceded by the Gers in the last two years. And he insists the blame for Saturday lies at the misfiring feet of Cyriel Dessers and posted missing Todd Cantwell, rather than the man in VAR room.

“One of the most controversial issues was that the Rangers did not receive a penalty,” he said in an interview with the Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast. “Willie Collum, who was on VAR with Nick Walsh officiating, is the source of the complaints Rangers are voicing to the SFA. They also want access to the VAR audio.” All they want is the audio recording of the talk.

But I’m truly amazed at how they’ve approached this. Other teams may be as shocked and worried about the fact that no penalties have been given against Rangers in the previous few seasons. It’s been, I believe, two years and seventy-three games since there was last a penalty against Rangers. It’s incredible.

“Do not blame Willie Collum for your deficiencies, Rangers. Fact of the matter is, had they a centre forward who could put his boots on the right feet, they may have actually ended up winning the game.

“Todd Cantwell hasn’t turned up for a meaningful Celtic Rangers game since he’s been at the club. So if you’re looking for someone to blame, Rangers, blame your own players.

“Do not blame Willie Collum because essentially, they came to the right decision, however they did it.”
