Rangers: David Edgar shares £5m Ibrox transfer update after Lawrence Shankland scores Hearts winner

Philippe Clement’s striker position is now far from ideal. While Cyriel Dessers has been in excellent form, putting all of your eggs in one basket is risky with Danilo and Kemar Roofe out with injury.

Shankland has the potential to solve all of the Rangers’ problems. However, Michael Beale’s summer buying spree may yet haunt Ibrox, with Edgar claiming that the club lacks the funds to launch a transfer move.
On Wednesday (27 December), the Hearts & Hand podcast founder responded to a fan who suggested that Hearts would demand £5 million for the star striker, saying, “Well, we don’t have anywhere near £5 million to spend in January.”

fresh management, fresh approach, and the same old players

When Clement took over for Beale in October, he brought his own brand of football with him. And, despite going undefeated in all tournaments, it is apparent that the Belgian needs some fresh players to fit his style.
He has managed to make the best of a poor circumstance. Better yet, he has created a positive outcome from a negative scenario. However, it appears that Clement will have to stick with the present group of players because Beale spent the most of the funds during the summer transfer window.
During the summer, incoming players included Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Sam Lammers, Dujon Sterling, Abdallah Sima, Dessers, Leon Balogun, Danilo, and Jose Cifuentes. Even if four of those transfers were free, the Gers still have some high-priced players on their books, leaving no room for the signing of Shankland in January.

There is no denying that the Hearts forward is a gifted player, having scored 11 league goals this season and 43 goals in 73 appearances since July 2022. He demonstrated this during Hearts’ 1-0 triumph over rivals Hibernian on Wednesday night, scoring the game-winning goal three minutes into injury time.

However, with Rangers’ hands tied, they may be too late to sign Shankland this summer, with numerous clubs keen in his signature.
