Hearts admit Lawrence Shankland could be sold amid Rangers link as fans told ‘just enjoy him while he is here’

earts manager Steven Naismith stated that if the price is good, the club may be forced to transfer Lawrence Shankland. However, he claims that others will be available to fill the hole if necessary.

The in-form striker has been linked with Rangers, among other clubs, ahead of the January transfer window, and his derby-winning goal will no doubt have added fuel to the fire.

“‘That’s just part of the game.” That’s probably something I’d like to get to the point where if a player quits, you have a list of players to choose from. We had it in the summer with Josh Ginnelly, who was a significant part of my past season. He moved on, so we had to make new signings. However, when players leave the squad, it opens up opportunities for others.Kris Boyd scored all of our goals when I was at Kilmarnock. He joined Rangers in January, and I and Colin Nish stepped up to score goals.”

However, he adds that if the club’s asking price is met, the player’s decision will be influenced by factors other than money.

“The style of play, finances, the run you’re on, and how comfortable you are at a club will all play a role.” A footballer must consider all of these factors. It’s not simply a case of ‘I’m relocating because everyone else is.’

“I think what is probably driving Shanks at the moment is making that Euros squad as well – which he has in the next six months.”

The player wasn’t at his best, but he was still clinical enough to decide the outcome of a close capital derby, which is why Hearts will have to be brave if they want to keep him.

The 28-year-old Scotland striker, the focus of speculation as the January transfer window approaches, came back from an early penalty miss and a lackluster performance throughout the Easter Road match to curl home a stoppage time winner.

“It’s an incredible feeling scoring a goal like that in this game.” I was dissatisfied with my performance. But all you want is that one moment, and if you get it, you’ll be able to go home pleased.

“It was disappointing to miss the penalty but it’s all about bouncing back from those moments.”

The entire team did so, with Zander Clarks saving a penalty kick from Martin Boyle just minutes after Shankland’s miss.

“That’s the first penalty I’ve missed in ages, but it happens.” Zander deserves credit for bailing me out.”

But Naismith was convinced they could find a victory, especially with a goalscorer like Shankland leading the way. He isn’t sure how long they will be able to hold on to him.

“If they are offered a fortune, every team in Scotland will sell their players.” That is a proven fact. He enjoys it, as evidenced by his excellent scoring and performance. He has an 18-month contract. We must appreciate him while he is at the club.

“He could stay for six months or he could stay for 18 months.” Enjoy him while he’s here. Enjoy him as he produces that week after week.”
