Scottish transfers: Shankland admits, English suitors for Miovski, Van Veen rumors, Celtic and Rangers urged to sign SPFL star

Owen Beck, a left-back for Dundee who is currently on loan from Liverpool, has impressed pundit Kenny Miller. The Wales Under-21 international has made 19 appearances for the Dark Blues, scoring two goals, and is expected to return to Anfield in the summer. Miller, a former striker for both Celtic and Rangers, said: “In the games that I’ve seen [Beck] this year, he’s been absolutely outstanding.

This goes again to show the loans and opportunities that can be presented, from the big clubs in England up to Scotland to play. I would expect, for me, maybe the big two up here [Rangers and Celtic].”

Van Veen to Rangers rumour

Regarding Rangers’ potential approach for Kevin van Veen during the January transfer window, there are conflicting rumors. After moving from Fir Park for £500,000 in the summer, the former Motherwell striker has struggled to fit in at his new club Groningen. It is now rumored that he is looking to return to Scotland, where he lives with his fiancée and their newborn kid. Rangers allegedly contacted the player’s agent about a potential move to Ibrox, according to the Dutch publication Dagblad van het Noorden. However, sources from the Scottish press indicate the rumor is unfounded.

Rangers have been linked to a deal for Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland and are anticipated to bolster their attacking lineup in January (see below). The 32-year-old Van Veen scored 29 goals in a record-breaking season for Motherwell the previous year, but he has only five goals this season in the Dutch second division.

Bojan Miovski, an Aberdeen striker, has been linked to Celtic, although Southampton, an English Champions team, may present a challenge.

The North Macedonia international, who joined from MTK Budapest in the summer of 2022 and has been a major hit at Pittodrie, is reportedly being considered by the Premier League promotion contenders for a January deal.

In 69 games with the Dons, including four during this season’s European run, Miovski has scored 32 goals. The 24-year-old is well-known to Darren Mowbray, the head of recruitment for the Saints; earlier this year, while serving in a comparable capacity at Pittodrie, he was the one who recognized him for Aberdeen.

Southampton are said to be keen to sign a frontman during the January window after Scotland international Ross Stewart was ruled out for the rest of the season.
