NEWS NOW: After Brentford’s victory, Aston Villa issued a transfer warning to Ollie Watkins.

According to Alan Shearer, Aston Villa needs to bring in a new striker.

With 12 wins out of their first 17 games, the Villians are having a great season. They are currently sitting third in the Premier League standings with 38 points, just one point behind leaders Arsenal.

And Ollie Watkins, 27, who has already scored nine league goals—including a late winner against Brentford last weekend—has been a major contributor to the team’s success.

The Torquay native striker has been on a roll lately, but Shearer thinks manager Unai Emery needs to give the 27-year-old some much-needed cover.

The legendary Newcastle player stated in his BBC Sport column, “My biggest concern with their squad would be their depth in forward positions, particularly as back-up to their leading scorer Ollie Watkins, who has started all 17 of their league games so far.”

“Watkins plays such a crucial role in everything they do that I’m not sure how they would function without him. When the January transfer window opens, they will also have the opportunity to add some reinforcements, so it will be interesting to see what transpires.

Following the signing of a new contract that keeps him in the Midlands until 2028, Watkins is now paid £130,000 a week, according to Spotrac.

Regarding Villa Park’s possible January business in general, not many players have been linked to the team, but some—like defender Clement Lenglet, who is on loan—are rumored to be leaving.
