Fijiana drua to come under counter ruck

Fijiana drua to come under counter ruck: The Super Rugby Pacific Club will assume management of the Fijiana Drua, according to a statement released today by the Fiji Rugby Union and Counter Ruck Pte Limited, the organisation that regulates the Fijian Drua.

The group will now compete in Rugby Australia’s Super W competition under the name RoosterChicken Fijian Drua Women. The needs of the Super W defending champions were the primary driving force behind the decision, which was made following a comprehensive evaluation and due diligence process between the two parties.

With this handover, the Drua Women will now be entirely under the control of Counter Ruck Ltd.’s management, making use of the Club’s cutting-edge training centre and other resources. A number of the Club’s specialised coaches will provide high performance support to the Women’s team’s coaching staff. They will also make use of the Club’s commercial, welfare, logistics, and team management services.

“As is the case with most Super Rugby Pacific sides, it made sense for FRU to get the Drua Women aligned with the Drua Men,” said Peter Mazey, chair of the Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board, in response to the handover. By doing this, Fiji Rugby will be able to concentrate on its primary goals of managing the national teams and overseeing grassroots development throughout the nation. Naturally, this also applies to the Vodafone Fijiana 15s squad. Everybody is aware of the crucial part this team plays in the national team’s development process. We are confident that Counter Ruck will take good care of the Drua Women while they manage the Drua Men’s team.

Mark Evans, CEO of Counter Ruck Limited and Fijian Drua, stated: “We are expanding to two teams today, making it a historic day for the Fijian Drua.” We express our gratitude to FRU for their collaboration and support during the whole process of due diligence. Although there were many talks and negotiations, it was crucial that we completed the task correctly. The appointment of the Drua Women’s management and coaching staff will be the next action. This will be a joint effort between the Fijian Drua and FRU. Before the 2024 Super W season starts, the players will be chosen and signed to contracts following the appointment of the coaching staff.

Evans continued, “Most Super Rugby Pacific sides have found success with a ‘One Club’ structure for both the men’s and women’s teams, and we’ll be no different. We are fully aware of the obligations we now have to the women’s team. We’ll make sure they gain from the resources available to us. As we aim for a three-peat, we will spare no effort in preparation against the back-to-back Super W defending champions.

At Brisbane Ballymore Stadium on Sunday, March 17, the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women will take on the Queensland Reds in the Super W season opener.
