Ferguson identifies Rangers ‘Problem’ in Clement’s transfer plan

Barry Ferguson has hinted that if Philippe Clement tries to offload some of the new arrivals during the January transfer window, he may run into trouble at Rangers.

Under the Belgian’s direction, the Light Blues have had a great start and are undefeated since his arrival at Ibrox. However, with the January transfer window approaching, it is anticipated that Clement will look to bolster his team.

Rangers will need to try to sell some of their more well-known players, though, if they hope to add players when the window opens. Ferguson thinks Clement might have trouble persuading players like Cyriel Dessers to move on.

“He’ll need to shift a couple of players in the forward areas because they’ve got a lot of similar players in certain areas and that’s something that he clearly thinks he needs to change,” he said in an interview with The Go Radio Football Show on November 29, 43:30.

“The issue is that they have high-paying contracts that last three or four years, and when you offer a player that kind of money, he has every right to say, ‘No, I want to stay.'” The players will hold the reins of power.

Due to their excessive spending during the January transfer window, Rangers created their own problem by offering players who are far too good for Clement’s team long-term, high-paying contracts in Glasgow.

Players like Sam Lammers and Dessers, who have agreed to lucrative contracts for the next few years of their careers and whom Rangers cannot force to leave without their consent, are unlikely to leave Scotland after less than six months.

This implies that for the foreseeable future, Clement will have to use these players, who are obviously below Rangers’ caliber, in order to finish off the contracts that were given to them when Michael Beale was the manager.

In the current game, player power has grown to be a major problem, but it is difficult to see this as anything more than Rangers sticking up for themselves. Since moving to Glasgow, Clement has dedicated a significant portion of his time to correcting Beale’s errors, and it doesn’t seem like this will change during the January transfer window.
