Todd Cantwell’s comments on Celtic captain Callum McGregor are even more bizarre after Philippe Clement outburst

Another day in pre-season, another day of chaotic energy from across the city as Celtic and their rivals Rangers prepare for the new campaign.

With the Bhoys off getting solid work done on a USA tour against DC United and Manchester City, the Ibrox lot’s summer has been embroiled in negative story after negative story.

Considering their stadium is not ready to host games, they’re losing friendly matches and pundits such as Kris Boyd are suggesting Philippe Clement is on the verge of quitting, it’s not been a good time for them.

It continued on Wednesday night when the Rangers boss made the odd call to return to an already finished press conference and report that Todd Cantwell had asked to leave the club and was demoted to training with the B team.

Cantwell has been a pantomime figure with the Celtic support since his arrival in Scotland, often on the receiving end of online hilarity and aimed digs from figures like Chris Sutton.

Todd Cantwell got it all wrong on Callum McGregor

He’s played up to it at times, as well. Back in April, there were particularly odd comments given to Sky Sports to whom he suggested he has a greater desire than Celtic captain Callum McGregor to win trophies.

Cantwell said: “There’s a rivalry there, right? Listen, there are things which are said on the pitch and things which are said off the pitch.

“And, as a player, I think you should respect. I want to win probably just as much as he (McGregor) does, probably a little bit more, to be honest, because he has been up here a long time.
