Duncan Ferguson has been sacked by Inverness Caledonian Thistle after the club entered administration.
Duncan Ferguson has been axed as manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the club’s latest worrying update. The League One side’s future has been plunged into uncertainty after entering administration due to a financial crisis.
Ferguson and two other coaches have been dismissed by Inverness, while other players and staff will learn of their fates on Thursday. Caley Thistle had launched a GoFundMe page in attempt to alleviate some of the financial pressure and raised more than £87,000 of their £200,000 goal.
However, earlier this month, the club released a statement to announce they had appointed administrators and confirmed the process had begun on October 22nd.
“We can confirm a formal appointment has been made and Inverness Caledonian Thistle is now in administration. We understand this will be a difficult and uncertain time for the club, its staff, its loyal fan base and the local community. The Administrators will be in a position to provide further information and their plan to seek to secure the long term future of the Club in due course,” a spokesperson at BDO said.
Inverness now sit bottom of the League One table on minus three points, following their 15 point deduction.
Following his dismissal, Ferguson said: “I’ve done the very best I can for my club and for my players. I’ve always tried to support my players behind the scenes and they all know that. And that’s the most important thing for me.”
The former Rangers and Everton forward was appointed manager of Caley Thistle in September 2023 following his stint with Forest Green Rovers. Ferguson left the Gloucestershire side after they won just one of his 18 games in charge.
Inverness were relegated from the Championship last season and the club continued to unravel due to their financial struggles. Earlier this month, Ferguson revealed he had been working for free in order to alleviate some pressures at the Highland club.
“I felt it would be appropriate for myself to offer my wage into that pot,” the 52-year-old said while Inverness were hoping to raise £200,000 to avoid administration. “Obviously I can’t go without a wage forever because I have got to put food on the table, but at the moment needs must.”
Ferguson’s last game in charge of Caley Thistle came last weekend when his side beat Annan Athletic 1-0 at home.
