Penrith Panthers star arrested after alleged chase with police

Former NRL player Arana Taumata, known for his troubled past in professional rugby league, was arrested following a foot chase with police in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on October 19, 2024. The 35-year-old was detained outside the Coogee Pavilion after officers approached him regarding several outstanding warrants. Taumata allegedly attempted to flee but was caught after a brief pursuit. During the arrest, a police officer sustained a head injury.

Taumata faces charges for multiple outstanding domestic violence warrants and resisting arrest. He was denied bail and is currently in custody, with upcoming court appearances scheduled. This is the latest in a series of legal issues for Taumata, who has faced several off-field problems throughout his career, which spanned multiple NRL clubs between 2008 and 2012.
