Adam Idah Celtic transfer latest as Norwich boss quizzed after friendly

Johannes Hoff Thorup is adamant Adam Idah will be a vital player for his Norwich team this season despite Celtic’s continued interest.

The Hoops are desperate to bring last season’s loanee back on a permanent basis as Brendan Rodgers seeks more firepower to compete with Kyogo after selling Oh to Genk. An initial offer of £4million plus add-ons was rejected but the Scottish champions are expected to keep trying despite noises coming out of the English Championship side suggesting they don’t want to sell.

New manager Thorup insisted from the outset that he wanted to give the 22-year-old a chance to impress him in pre-season. He’s maintained that amid constant questions over Celtic’s interest and says he is looking forward to working with the Republic of Ireland striker.

Idah started for a second Norwich friendly in a row today and set up a goal as they drew 1-1 with Standard Liege. Even if fans weren’t convinced by his display, the Dane remains steadfast.

Asked if there was any update on transfers, he laughed: “Absolutely no idea. I just spoke to the team after the final whistle and prepared the trip home so we land in Norwich tonight and find out.”

Pressed on Idah, he added: “Like we said from day one, he’s a vital part of the group and of the squad here. Luckily, or maybe unfortunately, we have players where there’s also interest from other clubs. But we should always strive to have that, that’s important for us.

“But Adam’s working hard in training, a good guy with good energy. He’s really doing well. And I hope it’s obvious for him and everyone that he will play a vital part for this team.”
