Carlton Palmer insists that Leeds United should not sack Daniel Farke and labelled links with Carlos Corberan “disrespectful”.

The Whites are reportedly believed to be keeping tabs on the West Brom manager with Farke under pressure to win promotion back to the Premier League at Elland Road this season [Sunday Mirror, 22 September, page 72]

Although Football League World pundit Palmer believes Leeds were interested in Corberan in the past, he doesn’t think the Whites should make a change in the dugout unless they miss out on promotion this term.

Speaking to Football League World on Monday (23 September) he said: “I don’t know where all this noise is coming from, I know there was an interest in Carlos Corberan before they appointed Daniel Farke.

“Corberan came out, and stated that he wanted to stay at West Bromwich Albion at the time, but if there was an interest, then surely they would have done that at the time when they brought Daniel Farke in.

“I think it’s disrespectful. Daniel Farke took them to the play-off final and, obviously, people are disappointed that they weren’t promoted last season, but he had a lot of work to do and got 90 points.

“If he delivers 90 points again this season, they will be promoted. Unless he’s not in a position of getting Leeds promoted, that means automatically either first or second, or in the playoffs, then there should be no talk about Daniel Farke losing his job.

“There is an awful long way to go. I expect Leeds United to be in the shake-up coming towards the end of the season.”

Will Leeds United sack Daniel Farke amid Elland Road exit rumours?

There has been a feeling of frustration in and around Leeds United this season given the Whites’ slower-than-expected start to the campaign, but it would be naive of fans to blame Farke for that.

The German saw three of his best players leave Elland Road during the summer transfer window and while some big names have arrived to fill the void left, it was always going to take time for them to adapt.

Even though Leeds haven’t exactly been playing free-flowing attacking football, they have been picking up points and they remain within touching distance at the top of the table at this stage of the campaign.

There has been nothing to suggest the former Norwich City man isn’t equipped to take his side to the Premier League. Corberan has started the season well at The Hawthorns, but is he really a better manager than Farke?

Hopefully, Leeds will stand by their manager and only look to make a change if they seriously begin to fall away from the top six in the coming months.
