Michael Stewart thinks Luis Palma’s Celtic career is all but over.
It comes after the winger put in a less-than-encouraging display against Scottish Championship outfit Falkirk in the league cup on Sunday.
Palma got the nod as Brendan Rodgers made a notable eight changes to his starting lineup following the 5-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday.
The Honduran came into the team but failed to catch the eye.
He continually frustrated supporters, failing to take on his man or do anything effective in attack. His defensive work was similarly non-existent.
The 24-year-old was eventually hooked on the hour mark, much to the delight of many fans.
Palma has since posted a defiant Instagram message about’ resilience’, but Stewart reckons his Parkhead days are numbered.
The pundit can’t see how Palma finds his way back into the team.
“For Luis Palma, I’m struggling to see how he is going to make his way back [into the team] because the competition is tough,” he said (Scottish Football Social Club via RecordSport).
“I don’t see how he how he is going to be able to make his way back at Celtic.
“I would not be surprised if come January he was being moved on elsewhere, because I don’t see him having the impact you would have hoped for and expected. He was a big summer transfer last year, so, no I wouldn’t be surprised if Palma is moved on.”
He scored in crucial league matches against Motherwell, Kilmarnock, and Ross County and also chipped in on the European front, bagging against Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord.
Post-Christmas, though, the attacker couldn’t keep up with his form and eventually fell off. He has scored just twice for Celtic in 2024 so far, with things not looking bright.
Perhaps a move away in January is best for all parties.
