DONE DEAL;Everton officially confirm signing top Manchester United man
Everton have now officially confirmed the appointment of a well-known Manchester United figure who spent nearly a decade with Red Devils.
A lot of talk has been about Manchester United’s structural change under INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
However, they aren’t the only club under new hands of control.
Everton’s evolution under CEO Angus Kinnear has gathered pace, with the club committing to a major structural shake-up across football operations.
Having moved away from a traditional Director of Football model, the club are now building a leadership team of experts to deliver long-term success across both the men’s and women’s sides.
And now, they’ve secured a major coup from one of English football’s most respected academies.
Everton, via their official website, have confirmed the appointment of Manchester United’s Nick Cox as their new Technical Director.
Thus, bringing an end to his nine-year spell at Old Trafford.
Everton had started talks to poach Cox, earlier this month.
Cox joined United in 2016 and was promoted to Academy Director in 2019.
He oversaw the first-team debuts of 35 players and reinforcing the club’s global reputation for elite youth development.
The Englishman now joins a four-man leadership team at Goodison Park, alongside James Smith (Scouting and Recruitment), Chris Howarth (Strategy and Analytics), and Nick Hammond (Player Trading).
Cox will lead operations at Finch Farm, covering the Medical, Academy, Player Care and Operational departments.
While also supporting first-team managers David Moyes and Brian Sorensen.
United also confirmed the departure on their club website, with words from Cox speaking on his time at United.
Cox said: “Youth development is an important part of the lifeblood of this club.
“It’s been an immense privilege to support this generation of young people and staff.”
United director of football Jason Wilcox also paid tribute to Cox’s impact, calling him a “huge contributor” to the club’s youth-first culture
