RANGERS TO PRIORITIZE TWO NEW TRANSFERS BEFORE AUGUST 30 DEADLINE IN NEW UPDATE

Rangers must prioritise the new signings of a creative midfielder and a left-winger, Andy Newport has said.

The Daily Record journalist also suggests that Philippe Clement would be open to a new striker if the funds are available. However, the other two positions are more important before the August 30 deadline.

The Belgian has worked tirelessly with Nils Koppen to rebuild the current squad at Ibrox, with eight signings acquired this summer, but there could be more to come.

When asked which signings must be made in the print edition of the Daily Record on Monday (19 August, page 41), Newport said: “Jeez, how long have you got?

“Rangers need upgrades in every position bar keeper but if I was Clement, I’d prioritise a creative midfielder and left winger. If there’s funds for another striker, then I’m sure he’d take that too.”

Rangers to make more signings before August 30?

Despite several new faces at Ibrox this summer, Clement’s side has already proven that they are lacking a real wow factor in the squad after being knocked out of Champions League qualifying.

Although the Gers did pick up three points against Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, a lot more needs to be done if they are to keep up with Celtic in the league.

While Clement and his squad are just five matches into the new season, goals could already be an issue for the Light Blues, with Cyriel Dessers having to save them in the League Cup against St Johnstone on Saturday 17 August.

Hearts’ striker, Lawrence Shankland, has been a name regularly linked with a move to Ibrox, and given his stats in front of goal, it is really no surprise, but that transfer looks dead in the water right now.

A left-winger would certainly help the attack, especially after Oscar Cortes suffered his new injury, while Todd Cantwell’s absence from the first-team squad has taken a huge attacking talent away from Clement.

With just 11 days remaining in the transfer window, the Gers will need to shift into a new gear with transfers if they are to add more new faces before the window closes.
